Feels like an appropriate book to read on Ash Wednesday。It's about being human, so full of possibilities but also someone who is going to screw up。But we can apologize and do better。 Feels like an appropriate book to read on Ash Wednesday。It's about being human, so full of possibilities but also someone who is going to screw up。But we can apologize and do better。 。。。more

This book is beautiful, yes。 It's not a story, but rather a series of messages about empathy - important leasons for kids and parents alike。 I saw someone else describe it as a meditation, and that's a good way of thinking about it。 It's hard to say, maybe there will come a time where this book will be an important tool in teaching my daughter lessons about compassion and self-compassiom, but it does to me that this book is written for parents more so than kids, who may find it a bit dull and be This book is beautiful, yes。 It's not a story, but rather a series of messages about empathy - important leasons for kids and parents alike。 I saw someone else describe it as a meditation, and that's a good way of thinking about it。 It's hard to say, maybe there will come a time where this book will be an important tool in teaching my daughter lessons about compassion and self-compassiom, but it does to me that this book is written for parents more so than kids, who may find it a bit dull and be more receptive to messages promised through story narrative。 。。。more

As the title says, this is a book about empathy。 It would be great to use to teach young students what empathy is and what it looks like。

Our daughter received this book for her birthday and it is lovely。 We really enjoyed this。

Man, empathy is a tough one。 I think this book was on the right track, with the setup being "hey, I'm just a person," followed by "people do not great things sometimes" and then "but you can also do good things。" All of which is great。 I felt like it kind of lost the kids' attention at some point, because the first two sections stole some of the light from the third part, which is the most important part to me。 Not bad, but I'm wanting more。 Man, empathy is a tough one。 I think this book was on the right track, with the setup being "hey, I'm just a person," followed by "people do not great things sometimes" and then "but you can also do good things。" All of which is great。 I felt like it kind of lost the kids' attention at some point, because the first two sections stole some of the light from the third part, which is the most important part to me。 Not bad, but I'm wanting more。 。。。more

A lovely book beginning to end, acknowledging human frailties and celebrating the joys of living, the connections among all humans, and the human capacity for choice。 It ends with a standard loving-kindness meditation, in which one practices wishing others and oneself well。 This book accomplishes everything I'd hoped it would。 I expect we'll read it a few more times before returning it to the library。 A lovely book beginning to end, acknowledging human frailties and celebrating the joys of living, the connections among all humans, and the human capacity for choice。 It ends with a standard loving-kindness meditation, in which one practices wishing others and oneself well。 This book accomplishes everything I'd hoped it would。 I expect we'll read it a few more times before returning it to the library。 。。。more

Contemporary Realistic K-1st This book is such a good read。 It is short and sweet, but it has a deep meaning。 I feel as though every kindergartner and first grader needs to read this story about Empathy。 I love how it is told from a child's point of view。 By doing this it makes the book more relatable to the younger children and it shows them a mirror into their own life。 Along with this I love how the author showed diversity in the book all while pinpointing that we all still hurt the same in t Contemporary Realistic K-1st This book is such a good read。 It is short and sweet, but it has a deep meaning。 I feel as though every kindergartner and first grader needs to read this story about Empathy。 I love how it is told from a child's point of view。 By doing this it makes the book more relatable to the younger children and it shows them a mirror into their own life。 Along with this I love how the author showed diversity in the book all while pinpointing that we all still hurt the same in the end。 I love how the illustrations were simple。 This allowed me to focus more on the words and the meaning of them。 In the end this is such a good book to have in the classroom。 I plan on opening up my school year by reading this book aloud to my students。 。。。more

This is a sweet book with wonderful illustrations that young children and parents will reach for when learning and discussing what it means to be human and how to show empathy。 This book comes in a board book format which I am thankful for! Many times it is difficult to get longer texts in the board book format。

Genre: Realistic FictionGrade: K-1st I like this book because of the lesson within the book。 I think it is important for students to read some books that have a life lesson imbedded in the story。 In this book it talked about empathy。 I believe it is important for students to know that it is alright to make mistakes, which the book talks about。 Life lesson in stories are something that is important for students to read about when they are younger。

Another beautiful book for the I Am series that challenges kids to be their best selves and gives them tools to practice loving-kindness meditation。

Kaylin Kojima

I loved this book because it was easy to read and had engaging and fun illustrations。 This is a great book to read to students, and just to have in the classroom because it is a reminder that we are all human and no one is perfect。 It also even gave me a little motivation for changing my mindset, and that can be really powerful for students to learn at a young age。 This is definitely a book that I will both read to my students and keep in my classroom。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Definitely more of a book adults will understand。 Great book for graduates! Love the ideas and teaching。 Would be better if said "I can treat people with equality and be (kind)。" Instead of fair。 Fairness is in relation to what an individual needs to succeed and not everyone knows what everyone else needs。 Definitely more of a book adults will understand。 Great book for graduates! This book is very inspirational yet still easy for a younger audience to comprehend。 Throughout the book it shares the story of the experiences and emotions this boy has but he continues to remind himself that he is human。 He assures himself that he is going to be okay and he can do all these things because everyone goes through these things。 He shares that he sometimes makes poor choices but that poor choice can become a better choice with thoughtfulness。

Loved this book。 Opens discussion for a lot of topics in friendship, kindness and basic social skills。 It can also be a good ice breaker for getting to know students and helping them learn about themselves。
